A New York Times bestselling author will present SUNY Oneonta’s Mills Distinguished Lecture at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, in the college’s Alumni Field House. Born in West Africa, Ishmael Beah wrote "A Long Way Gone, Memoirs of a Boy Soldier." This is an autobiographical account of the atrocities he witnessed as a child soldier, his rescue by the United Nations Children’s Fund, and the struggle to regain his humanity afterward. The Mills Distinguished Lectureship is named to honor the memory of Professor Albert Mills and his wife, Helena. Through generous support of the college foundation, the lecture is free and open to the public. Tickets are required though and can be reserved at oneonta.edu/commonread
