Our Perry Browne Intermediate School kids got exactly what they wanted Monday morning, calling out Principal Michelle Osterhoudt to take a short ride in a hot air balloon.

Mrs. O was certainly up for it, climbing right into the carriage to join gym teacher Doug Costin and Liberty Balloon Company Commercial Pilot Lee Teitsworth. Then it was up, up and away!

Perry Browne is the first of three Norwich City School District schools participating this week in Liberty Balloon Company’s Up and Away with Hot Air Balloons program, which gives students a close-up look at how hot air balloons work.

Mr. Teitsworth follows his outdoor demonstration with an interactive, engaging slide show about the history of hot air balloons. This educational and entertaining program, sponsored by RE/MAX and the Purple Tornado Community Team, will visit Stanford Gibson Primary School at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, and Norwich Middle School at 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 19.

Media members are welcome but must call our District Office at 607-334-1600, ext. 5503, before arriving on campus.

Multiple videos of Monday’s event are posted on our Facebook pages for the Norwich City School District and Perry Browne Intermediate School. Photos are attached. Media members are welcome to download and use these videos/photos. Please credit the Norwich City School District.
