What do you think of when you hear the phrase "trolley car?"  Well, for most of us probably remembering an old relic you once saw, or maybe the scenes from an old black and white movie with people riding a trolley car and the conductor clanging away with his big bell.  Or perhaps you have taken a ride on one of the few trolley cars operating in some major cities in the United States or Europe?

And then there are, of course, the fabled trolley cars of San Francisco.

But what about us, who live in rural areas?  What do we know about this form of mass transportation that was once used by millions around the country?

Well, head to Kingston, NY and hear all about it!  The Trolley Museum of New York is located on waterfront in Kingston, and they do a wonderful job telling the story of trolley car travel from all around the world 100, 150 years ago.  They have lots of old cars on display, many of them beautifully restored.

And then, the showstopper!

An actual ride in a vintage trolley car along a rail line out to the edge of the beautiful Hudson River for a look around.  Yes, it really is a showstopper.

I loved this museum, and you will too!  Check it out in this gallery!
