What is the first thing that comes to your mind when someone asks about a great New York State waterfall?  Of course, it is Niagara Falls.  But we have so many others to admire!

This gallery will be the first in a series of posts about the beautiful and amazing waterfalls in our region.  while they are not on the grand scale of Niagara, each definitely has a ton of charm and even some pretty awesome history to them.

As for historic trivia, these waterfalls have some pretty cool data to them.  One of them in this gallery has the tallest single drop of any waterfall East of the Rocky Mountains.  Another has more volume of water rushing over it boulders than Niagara Falls!  especially after a big rainstorm.  it is very col@!

These waterfalls span the Upstate region from the Capital District to western New York.  There is a good chance at many of these waterfalls that you may catch a little mist in your eye.  Yes, you can get that close!

As we compile our list of waterfalls for future galleries, please let us know what your favorite one is in the Upstate region.  Give it a shout out over on our Facebook page.  we really do want to hear from you!

So enjoy this gallery of neat waterfalls, and watch out for future similar galleries as we try and highlight as many as we can!

Not Niagara Falls, But These Are All Waterfalls to See, Admire, and Get a Little Wet!

Niagara Falls is, of course, the grandaddy of all American waterfalls. But there are many others, smaller and perhaps more remotely located, that can have you looking at in awe in Upstate New York. As warmer weather is around the corner we will continue to do a "spotlight on Upstate waterfalls" in the future.

These eight are great. From the thundering Cohoes Waterfall in the Capital District, to the towering Taughannock Falls north of Ithaca, and to the secret waterfalls in Herkimer County to perhaps the most amazing waterfall in the east just outside of Buffalo, NY, these are all worth a trip!

Are These the 10 Quirkiest Museums in Upstate New York? Take a Look!

I love these odd, quirky little museums that seem to pop up all over Upstate New York. They are so worth a half hour of your time to stop, explore, listen to the docents, and learn about some of the most fascinating facts about our region. For example, did you know that more wooden hand-carved painted carrousels were made in Western New York than in all the other factories in the U.S. combined? The museum is on this list. Did you know that there is a special museum located in the heart of the Catskills that relates to an ancient fishing sport? The museum is on the list. Did you know that one of only three cheese museums in the world in up here? It is on the list. Take a peek. You might learn something here!
