New York New Single Day COVID Infections Back Over 1,000

New York State’s COVID-19 infection rate is now back over one percent on a rolling, seven-day average.

State officials reported July 18 1,142 new infections and two deaths and that the state’s total COVID cases has now surpassed 2.1 million. This is the first time since the end of May that new infections in a daily report have exceeded one-thousand.

Current local numbers are harder to come by as most Southern Tier Counties are only providing updated numbers weekly, if at all, and on different days of the week. The local numbers reported by counties do not agree with the New York State dashboard due to different timetables and processes for reporting numbers.

For the most part, new infections in Southern Tier Counties have been coming in at under 10 a week. Death rates have remained steady.

Much of the increase in new cases reported in New York State have been linked to the more highly-contagious Delta variant in under-vaccinated areas.
