New York state has a new man at the head of it's gambling commission. The state senate has confirmed Hobart and Williams College President Mark Gearan to the chairmanship of the State Gaming Commission.

The commission is expected to meet next week to appoint members of the Gaming Facility Location Board. There are four casino licenses up for grabs this year.

Voters approved a constitutional amendment in November to allow casinos and gaming on non-Indian land. At least one of those facilities will be sited in the Catskills or in the Binghamton area.
