On Saturday, April 8, the American Red Cross is joining forces with the City of Oneonta, the Oneonta Fire Department, and other community partners to help local families prepare for home fires. During this one-day, city-wide event, volunteers will provide lifesaving fire safety education to hundreds of Oneonta households, while installing FREE smoke alarms for any local resident in need.

The Red Cross is working in close partnership with the City of Oneonta and the Oneonta Fire Department to coordinate this event. New York Central Mutual has also joined the effort, serving as a Home Fire Campaign sponsor and encouraging employees to get involved as volunteers.

Corporate sponsors of the Home Fire Campaign enable the Red Cross to provide critical services to people impacted by fires, along with lifesaving tools and resources to support home fire preparedness efforts. In addition to New York Central Mutual, Red Cross Home Fire Campaign supporters in the Eastern New York Region include MVP Health Care, Price Chopper/Market 32, and Stewart’s Shops.

Oneonta residents who would like to receive free smoke alarms from the Red Cross and its partners are encouraged to call (518) 694-5121 or visit redcross.org/eny/homefires to register. Appointments will be scheduled in advance and completed between 10:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 8.
