"In the old days" this was a familiar sight on the back roads of our listening area.

Long before I-88 took us off the less traveled roads, this was a sight that you could come upon at virtually any hour of the day (especially, if I remember it correctly, on NY Rt. 7 between Sidney and Oneonta)..  A mom, standing in the road with a homemade stop sign in her hand, stopping cars in both directions.  Dad would be behind her coaxing "old Bessie" across the road from one field to another or tho the barn.  It always seemed like an annoyance back then.

But now, it seems so charming.

Do people still do this?  Are there laws that came along sometime ago that made taking your cows across the road illegal.  I don't know, but you hardly ever see this "slice of old Americana" anymore.
