Did you know that Marshmallow Fluff is a regional food? Me either.

The creamy gooey concoction is made in Somerville, Massachusetts by the Durkee-Mower company.  They churn out 40,000 pounds of this stuff every day!  In the 1930s the company pioneered radio advertising sponsorships by hosting a 15-minute radio show of comedy and music.  The musical stars of the show were (are you ready for this) The Flufferettes!

Marshmallow Fluff now comes in Strawberry and Raspberry flavors but, despite pleas from the product's fans, not in chocolate.  Chocolate contains butterfat which prevents Fluff from whipping up to its iconic consistency.

The Fluffernutter sandwich (Fluff and peanut butter) is widely popular in the Northeast. Several attempts to have the Fluffernutter named the state's official sandwich have fallen short.  The company's hometown, Somerville, has hosted a "What the Fluff?" festival for many years.

Happy Birthday to Marshmallow Fluff!
