Legendary Boston Red Sox third baseman Frank Malzone has died.  He was 85.

He was an outstanding player both at bat and on the field.  In 1957 he became the first third baseman to win the Gold Glove Award.  The 8-tim All Star was a beloved icon in Boston.

Frank Malzone also owned a restaurant in Oneonta, a city he played ball in and frequented throughout his life (his wife was from Oneonta).  Malzone once told the Boston Globe newspaper:  "There was an Italian restaurant in Oneonta called Molinari's, I went on to own it, and if you hit a triple in an Oneonta home game they would give you a free steak.  I got a lot of free steak dinners back then!"
