On May 6th, New York State Police at Homer arrested James E. Hobart, 41, of Tully for driving while intoxicated, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest.

The arrest occurred after Cortland County Emergency services received a report of a pick up truck crashing through the gate and driving up a hiking trail at the Tinker Falls State Park.

An investigation seemed to determine Hobart was intoxicated when he crashed through the locked gate and unlawfully entered state property. With the aid of Onondaga County Air One, the pick up truck was observed stuck in the mud about two and a half miles up the trail. When law enforcement reached him, police say that Hobart refused to exit his truck and physically resisted arrest.

Hobart was arraigned in the Town of Homer court and remanded to the Cortland County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 property bond.

The troopers from SP Homer were assisted by troopers from SP Lafayette, the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department, Onondaga County Air One, the NYS Forest Rangers, and Truxton Fire Department.
