When Dr. Joyce Brothers passed away last week at the age of 85, many remembered her as a friendly, familiar face on television for more than a half century.  She was the "Mother of Pop Psychology" and her TV shows, newspaper columns, books and live appearances made her a virtual household name for two generations of fans.

But when did we first hear the name Joyce Brothers?

In 1955, when she was an unknown psychologist from Brooklyn, N.Y. she was picked to be a contestant on the hit show $64,000 Question.  Her subject was boxing.  It was an incongruous sight week after week, watching the diminutive and pretty little blonde lady standing in the "famous sound proof booth" answering question after question about boxing champs, announcers names, title knockouts, and controversial prizefighting decisions.

This is a rare video.  Watch what happens.  This was the start of fame for Dr. Joyce Brothers!
