The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents about a resurgence of the “grandparent scam” where a caller posing as a grandchild pleads for money to get out of jail or for some other urgent need. The sheriff’s office says to first resist the urge to act immediately then verify the callers identify by asking questions a stranger should not be able to answer. Never send prepaid gift card numbers over the phone and do not give out personal information.
