Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]Engineers now say a Delaware County bridge that was whacked in a hit and run will have to remain closed indefinitely.

The Corbett Bridge over the East Branch of the Delaware River in Town of Colchester that had been hit at the end of August has been determined to have bad enough structural damage that it can’t be used for an extended period of time.

The engineers, New York State Department of Transportation and Delaware County Department of Public Works say a preliminary investigation August 27 indicated the overhead steel structure on the suspension bridge was probably hit by a large vehicle, possibly a tractor trailer or box truck as it crossed the bridge from the hamlet of Corbett to access State Route 30.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputy Christopher Erwin at (607) 287-4756.
