Construction Begins on the Oneonta Hotel 100-Years Ago!

I have seen a lot of images of "old Oneonta" before but a listener sent me one that really had my eyes popping.  A look at the construction workers as they are building the grand, magnificent Oneonta Hotel on Main Street.  The photo is dated 1913!

Look closely at this remarkable photo.  Perhaps your grandfather is one of the construction workers standing atop the finished first floor.  I think this is an amazing photo, and shows what a major undertaking the construction of this major downtown component was.  I think it is pretty neat that I have discovered this old photograph a century after it was taken!

For all the hard work of the Oneonta laborers, well, it sure was worth it.  Here is the hotel when it opened 2 years later.  What a grand, old lady she was.  I can only hope that sometime in the future she is returned to her old glory.
