On July 23, Commerce Chenango will hold a business after hours networking event at the Canasawacta Country Club in Norwich to present a program for future enrollees in this fall’s Leadership Chenango class. Jill Eddy of Commerce Chenango says alumni from past classes will talk about the benefits of the class.

"Leadership Chenango is a program that was established about 25 years ago," Eddy said. "It's a nine month class, students take it two days a month and it's to educate people about Chenango County and as a livelong resident here I thought I knew everything and I went through the class last time and I didn't. We learned about education, healthcare, agriculture the judicial system, we go and visit a lot of different businesses that are big and small."

Eddy says the class gets to visit businesses, offices and public service programs to get a feel for the workings of the community.

"[Students] also get to do interviews with people so that you get a better idea of not just the educational system, you get to interview a superintendent, the athletic director, the head of transportation, so you really get a better idea about the whole system," Eddy said. "This is for anybody in the community, you don't have to be a chamber member, it really is to prepare you to be a better leader to serve on our boards to help the community, so anybody can come."

Commerce chenango is now actively recruiting students for the next Leadership Chenango class, which runs from October thru next June. For more information call Jill at 334-1402.
