Another one of the greats. I used to love Gilbert Gottfried and always looked forward to his antics back in the 90's when he was the host of 'USA Up All Night', where B movies would play and he would trash them.

Gilbert was scheduled to perform at the Cohoes Music Hall this summer on June 18th. I was looking to seeing him in person for the first time.

A statement released by the comedian's family on his official twitter account Tuesday afternoon confirmed the news:

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illiness. In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children. Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert's honor.

The cause of death wasn't mentioned, other than that it was a 'long illness'. He was 67 years old.

Along with his trademark voice, Gottfried was a regular on the stand-up scene, and had numerous acting roles on TV and movies - including being the voice of Lago in Disney's Alladin films. Most recently, he hosted his own podcast 'Gilbert Gottfiried's Amazing Colossal Podcast', where he interviewed entertainers from all different genres.

Just last year Gilbert sat down with fellow comedian Bob Saget on a podcast that just derailed into laughter for almost two hours.

Another one of the greats gone way too soon. RIP Gilbert.
