ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The New York legislature's top Democrat says there's a "whole bunch" of unresolved state budget issues as negotiators race to meet a deadline next week.

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver tells reporters at the state Capitol Friday that pre-kindergarten and other education issues still need to be agreed to. The budget is due before Tuesday.

Silver says he is still optimistic they can agree to a budget on time.

State leaders had hoped to resolve final differences and print legislation Friday, clearing the way for Monday voting since procedure usually requires bills to sit on lawmakers' desks for three days.
