The Crime Victims Program of Chenango County is kicking off national crime victims’ rights week Monday April 22 on the steps of the County Courthouse in Norwich.

The idea is to get information and education out to the public about victim issues, rights and where to seek help. Mike Middaugh, supervisor of the Chenango County Child Advocacy Center says they have a lot going on during the week.

"Tuesday, April 23, at the SUNY Morrisville Norwich campus, we are putting on an educational conference from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.," he said. "We have a couple of keynote speakers and we are just putting out information. We are going to talk about New York State Victims Bill of Rights. We are going to talk about trauma and recovery. We are going to talk about services that are provided and how you can get legal help for civil issues if you are a victim of a crime. We're not just talking about child abuse and sexual assault, we're talking about victimization in all types of crime in Chenango County."

On Tuesday night at Norwich High School, a nationally known spokesperson and real voice for violence against women and children will perform a play “Voices of Men” where he uses male celebrity voices to bring across how violence is prevalent in our society and what we in the community can do to educate ourselves about it and get involved in preventing it.
