Not only will there be a celebration of diverse cultures today on the SUNY Oneonta campus, but obstacles facing underrepresented groups will also be examined.

Throughout the day there will be speakers, discussions and many other activities all part of the Feast for the Soul event.

Dr. Bryan Hains of the University of Kentucky will deliver the keynote address at 6:30 p.m. in the Human Ecology Building.

Associate Professor of Human Ecology Karen Joest explains Hains’ process of cultural immersion.

"People can actually take on another identity," she said. "So let's say you're a person who is Caucasian and you want to understand experiences of someone of color. It's very limited in what you can do for that, but you actually will learn about that person's identity and then become that person of a different identity for a day."

The day long Feast for the Soul event is the culmination of a yearlong series of activities supported by a $10,000 Explorations in Diversity and Academic Excellence grant.
