SYRACUSE -- An earthquake was felt across central New York on Friday morning.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports a 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck at 9:43 a.m about 12 miles northeast of Shawville, Canada.

Numerous calls came in across New York State saying they felt the earthquake. Most of the reports were from the Syracuse area but some residents of Sherburne called in saying they felt some shaking as a result of Fridays quake.

NYSEG issued a press release Friday saying that crews inspected all pipeline bridge crossings, origination points and other natural gas facilities in the parts of our service areas affected by the earthquake.
