I have always heard about this event but never made it......yet!

Several years ago the community of North Tarrytown legally changed its name to the more Chamber of Commerce-friendly name of Sleepy Hollow.  It was a smart move.  Few places in the Hudson Valley are so familiar to Americans as "The Land of the Headless Horseman."  Writer Washington Irving wrote his Sleepy Hollow tales referencing this area in his books.  Every year they throw one of the biggest Halloween events in the region.  Hundreds attend with their families as the whole town turns into Halloween Central.

One of the highlights of a visit to this historic Hudson River community is a trip to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, where Washington Irving is buried.

And of course the highlight of the night (or day) is the unexpected appearance of the Headless Horseman himself.  It sounds like great fun and I have always wanted to take some young ones with me to Sleepy Hollow for Halloween.  And if the young ones won't go..I'll go by myself!
