I am on my way to The Bayou City for a couple of days!

I lived in Houston from about 1980 to 1985.  It was (and I presume still is) a fantastic city!  I remember my days there of Gilley's Club (and the first mechanical bull), Lone Star beer, Goode Time Barbecue, Kathy Whitmire (first female mayor), Bum Phillips and his Houston Oilers, ballgames in the Houston Astrodome, trail rides, my first daughter's birth in Houston, the world's largest rodeo, Hurricane Allan (yikes), the Galleria with its huge indoor ice skating rink, Tex-Mex,  Marvin Zindlar and The Chicken Ranch (later made into the film The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas with Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds), massive traffic jams and unlivable humidity, ice houses, Ima Hogg and her stunning Bayou Bend, pickup trucks with long horns on the front hood, Dr. Denton Cooley and the artificial heart, line dancing, U of H, Battleship Texas and the San Jacinto Monument, , the best Cinco de Mayo, po boys, and too much more long lost in my memory bank.

I am sure it has all changed, but we'll see.  Stories next week!
