Baby Boomer Alert: Who Remembers the Metal Lunch Boxes of the 1950s, 1960s?

First day of school!  Yay!  Bring on the school lunch boxes!

Most kids, I think, do not use these any more.  But on my very first day of school (Kindergarten, 1955, Pearl Street School, Sidney) I proudly carried my metal Davy Crockett Indian Fighter lunch box (with thermos) up the street with me.  Of course the thermos didn't really work.  It never kept anything really cold, and it usually leaked, but I loved it.  At school we all compared lunch boxes.  Usually they were all with the latest favorite TV show on the box, sometimes with a sports figure or cartoon.

I loved my old Davy Crockett lunch box and carried it with me until it rusted so bad my Mom made me put it away.
