Baby Boomer Alert: Joe Weider, “Father of Bodybuilding,” Dies at 93 (PHOTOS, VIDEO)
Joe Weider has died at 93. His comic book ad of the scrawny kid getting sand kicked in his face at the beach was an iconic image of the Baby Boom generation. Weider has been called the "Father of American Bodybuilding" and with his brother, Ben, they founded the International Federation of Bodybuilders.
He authored many book on fitness and was a hero to many of the young boys of the post-World War II era.
Weider's publications included Flex, Muscle and Fitness, shape and Men's Fitness. Weider created the Mr. Olympia competition (Arnold Schwarzenegger won it seven times).
In In 1960 Joe Weider married Betty Brosmer who was the highest paid pin-up model in America at the time. She survives her husband.
