Baby Boomer Alert: In 1962 “The Twist” Begins A SECOND Run At The Top Of The Charts!

Chubby Checker's "The Twist" is the only single in the rock era to make it to the top of the charts on two completely different occasions!

In 1960 he topped the charts for a single week and then in 1962 he was back on top for two more weeks.

The Twist was a phenomenon.  It started out the dance clubs along the East Coast and was a hit with the teens.  Soon high profile celebrities and socialites were "twisting the night away" from New York to L.A.!  It was even rumored that Jackie Kennedy and her Washington friends were spotted twisting in the White House (gasp!).

When I was thirteen I entered a Twist contest at the Rec Center in my hometown of Sidney, NY.  I must have caused quite a commotion because I was barred from ever doing the dance again in Delaware County!  I don't remember police being called to the dance, but that is a distinct possibility.  I remember I also threw my back out.  Doing the Twist is NOT for sissies!
