We know that the Beatles put Liverpool, England on the map, but here is another singer who came roaring out of the nightclubs of that working class city.  Her name is Cilla Black.

2013 marks her 50th anniversary in show business.

She was discovered by Beatle John Lennon who get her her start in the clubs of Liverpool.  Her only America success was "You're My World" which was a Top 30 hit in the U.S. but hit #1 on the U.K. charts.  She went on to sell 10,000,000 records and became one of England's most popular female singers.

At one time she was the highest paid television performer in the U.K.

Cilla Black scored her big hit "You're My World" when she had just turned twenty.  Many many years later she performed this hit at Royal Albert Hall in front of a sold out command performance.  See the video of it here..she still has a wonderful voice!
