In the "old days" a television set was a piece of furniture.  Your Mom waxed and polished it and it was usually one of the biggest pieces of furniture in your living room.  Ours even had a "hi-fi" on one half of it.

It was sophisticated (for 1959) but we were proud of our first TV set.  The neighbor kids would come over to watch it and then go home and tell their parents to get them one.  It was expensive, and we had very little money, but I guess my Mom and Dad thought that with 8 kids it was a good investment!

Still, no matter how hard we tried, the stations (and there were only three back then) came in weak and fuzzy.  Until we bought some rabbit ears for the top of the TV.

How many remember these things?  It was a two man operation, with your brother or sister turning the dial while you sat in front of the screen yelling "Not yet, that's it, no wait, go back, there....hold it right there!"
