We have all seen the famous black and white photographs from Civil War.  Matthew Brady pioneered the art of war photography with his graphic images of the War Between the States.

They are unforgettable.

Now look at these.

Colorization experts have now come up with a way to add vibrant colors to these iconic photos.  I was struck by them.  Of course there did not exist a way to take color photographs at the time of the Civil War.

The addition of color does two things, in my opinion.  It "softens" up the grisly impact of these war images and it also seems to make them more real and lifelike all at the same time.  Take a look at these images and see if you have a different reaction to seeing these familiar images in color than when you first saw them in their original black and white.

And remember..we have all seen these as black and white photographs already!
