An audit released Friday by the State Comptroller's Office has condemned the Village of Walton’s financial controls and oversight is practically non-existent.

The report notes that the mayor and village board did not monitor the village's financial operations, saying there were inadequate controls over records and reports, disbursements, cash receipts, payroll and the purchasing process.

Walton Mayor Patrick Meredith says village officials are responding to the findings and have implemented 90 percent of the recommendations so far. Mayor Meredith will discuss the audit with village trustees today.
