A woman has been indicted on possession of illegal drugs while she was incarcerated in a local jail.  The woman also faces illegal contraband charges.

Jessica M. Palmatier, 39 of Afton, is charged with secreting drugs on her person prior to her arrest in Otsego County and then her subsequent boarding at the Delaware County jail the same day.  The incident took place on November 30, 2020.

Delaware County Sheriff's investigators have charged the Afton woman with  possession of more than 25 grams of Methamphetamine and more than 5 grams of Fentanyl while in the Delaware County Jail.  A grand jury has issued the following charges against the woman:  they include two Class B felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, as well as two more charges of Class D felony counts of promoting prison contraband in the first degree.

The sealed indictment of these charges was handed down by Delaware County Court Judge Richard. D. Northrup, Jr.

Palmatier was arraigned in the Delaware County Court Thursday afternoon and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending a future court appearance.

The investigation was conducted by several local agencies including the Delaware County Correctional Office, the Delaware County Sheriff Department, and Delaware County Criminal Investigators.  Information on the case was supplied in partnership with the Otsego County Correctional facility.
