An Afton man is facing several felony counts following an investigation into inappropriate behavior involving children.

New York State Police say 32-year-old James Blackman is accused of raping and sexually abusing two children under the age of 11 on several occasions in Chenango County.

According to a State Police news release, Investigators at Sidney and Binghamton investigated a report the authorities received on April 15 of alleged inappropriate behavior involving the Afton man and children.

Blackman was arrested Thursday and charged with two felony counts of Predatory Sex Assault Against a Child, four felony counts of Criminal Sex Act, two counts of Sex Abuse and two misdemeanor counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Blackman was sent to the Chenango County Jail.

In their news release, State Police said: “If you are concerned that a child is being abused,… Please report any incidents, no mater what your role is – parent, family member, coach, teacher or religious leader…”
