ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is beefing up its web site.

The DEC will make information available online for nearly 2,000 remedial sites.
Sites to be added include: properties being investigated to determine if they may have been contaminated with hazardous waste at levels that could present a significant threat to public health or the environment; sites that have been, or are regulated, because they either generated, treated, stored, or disposed of hazardous waste; and brownfield sites where an application to participate in a brownfield program was submitted but either withdrawn or did not proceed because it did not qualify for the program.
A rising number of public requests for information about possible environmental contamination on properties around the state prompted the DEC to respond.
