Virginia M. Darling, 83, of Oneonta, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

Virginia was born on July 2, 1929 in Cadosia, New York, the daughter of the late Royal A. and Naomi (Cuyle) Darling.

She was a very devoted mother and grandmother who absolutely loved spending time with her family. For most of her children’s lives, she was not only Mom but was also Dad as well. In her spare time, Virginia enjoyed putting together puzzles.

Virginia is survived by her children, Donald Gregory, Kandy Burgher and her husband, Ira, Tammy Burgher, Paul Hunt, Penny Sanchez, and DeForst Hunt and his fiancé, Melissa Allen; her grandchildren, Starrlene Hunt, James Winfield, Corbin Hunt, Kadin Winfield, Alysa Hunt, Katrina Hunt, Jessica Burgher, Amber Ruff and her husband, Trevor, Adam Sanchez, Brenden Sanchez, Kelly Nafalski and her husband, Elvis, Harry Smith, and Charlie Smith; and 7 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her brother, Chester L. Darling, and four very special friends, John, Michelle, Timothy, and Annastacia Borggreen.

Virginia was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Annabelle Brandenburg and her husband, Albert.

In keeping with Virginia’s wishes, there will be no public calling hours. A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 1pm in the Glenwood Cemetery, Main Street, Oneonta, with the Rev. Mel Farmer officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Susquehanna S.P.C.A., 4841 State Highway 28, Cooperstown, NY 13326.
