While dodging raindrops through the past 6 days, we were able to squeeze in 3 games before approaching the midpoint of our season. It’s been an unusual summer here in New York with the amount of rainfall. All the teams in the NYCBL have at least 10 make up games left on the schedule, leaving most of our remaining games doubleheaders.  Doubleheader games are two nine innings games back to back making for a long day at the ballpark.

Our last two games were a league crossover game against the first place Olean Oilers.  We played one game at their home turf at Olean High School and one game at our home field. Both games were barn burners that we split. Both scores were 4-3, leaving both teams 1-1 after the series. It brought a lot of confidence to our team knowing we can hang with the best team in the league.

In between the days we had rainouts our team met at the cages and hit off the tee along with batting practice to make sure we stayed sharp going into the home stretch into the season.

Today, and for the rest of the week our team is holding a morning instructional camp for the local kids in the area.  It was a great experience to work with the younger kids and help them pursue their careers.

I always enjoyed camps like this growing up so I definitely made sure to make it fun for all the campers.

We covered the importance of stretching before you start playing.  We then broke them into different group consisting of fielding, hitting, and pitching introducing the fundamentals that we all learned in the past.  We ended a day with scrimmages that all the campers participated in, along with myself and some fellow Silversmiths.

I certainly enjoyed myself and look forward to the rest of the week of camp. Check back tomorrow to hear about the upcoming NYCBL All Star Game and prospect day.
