George Korthauer, City Manager for Oneonta, handed in his resignation yesterday. According to a press release, the resignation is effective as of February 7. Korthauer began his position with the city in August of 2017 after previously serving as city manager for Petoskey, Michigan for 25 years.

Korthauer's contract as manager is up this coming August but states, "my leaving now will permit the Common Council, with its many new members, to appoint a City Manager of their choosing early on. It is an honor to have served as City Manager in Oneonta and to have worked for and with great people who are talented, conscientious, and dedicated to this community and its municipal government."

Mayor Gary Herzig states that he will be "working with our Common Council Members through this time of transition. We have a very dedicated and talented team of Department Heads and staff. I am certain that they will function a the highest level in providing service to the people of our city during this time of transition."

The Common Council will need to discuss the process of moving forward with the Mayor.  It's possible that discussion will take place at the next Common Council meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
