The Data Is In… Here Are New York’s Most Popular Baby Names

Remember in school when there would be a bunch of kids who all had the same name and you'd have to distinguish them by their last initial?

Thanks to data from the Social Security Administration, we now know the latest class of kids who are going to have that issue. The SSA has released its data of the most popular baby names in 2019, and on the girls' side of things, new parents are shakin' it up a little bit.

Across the United States, Emma is no longer the most popular baby name among girls. Olivia took the reigns, leaving Emma at No. 2 and Ava trailing at No. 3. Sophia, Isabella, Charlotte, Amelia, Mia, Harper and Evelyn also rounded out the girls' top ten.

The nationwide data also showed that Liam maintained its spot as the most popular baby name among boys for the third year in a row. Noah and Oliver came in at No. 2 and 3, respectively, while William, Elijah, James, Benjamin, Lucas, Mason and Ethan rounded out the boys' top ten.

New York State fell right on trend in 2019 when it came to naming babies. New parents across the state named a total of 1,060 babies Olivia and 1,489 babies Liam last year, making those the most popular names not only across America, but also in the Empire State.
