According to U.S. Senator Charles Schumer, government officials will meet soon to create a database for tracking heroin.

The Office of National Drug Control Policy has agreed to meet with state and local officials to determine how to set up the statewide-sharing database which will be called “Drugstat.” The database would be used to help control the heroin crisis and other drug related crimes in New York state. It would identify patterns, crack down on heroin rings across county lines, target high crime areas, and determine which drug is the most sought after.

Schumer suggested that counties could fund their databases by possibly obtaining a grant from the Department of Justice.
