A report released by state comptroller Thomas DiNapoli Friday shows concern over the expansion of gambling in New York state.

One of the primary concerns raised is that casinos will draw their revenue from the population of New York state, which re-directs consumer money from local retailers into the possibility of winning at a casino.

DiNapoli's report concluded that the state's reliance on gambling, from the lottery and casinos has grown over the last 20 years, but the amount going to the state and school districts is smaller then in 1967.

During the last fiscal year New Yorkers spent more than $38 billion on gambling venues.
