On the heels of a Board of Education decision to open talks with Worcester Central School officials regarding tuitioning-out Schenevus middle and high school students, the school district has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Regional Economic Development Council to finance a study on the viability of a Worcester-Schenevus school merger according to a press release from State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta).

Seward made the announcement yesterday and says, “I have worked closely with officials at the Schenevus Central School District as they take steps to stabilize the district’s finances and develop a sound plan moving forward. The $25,000 REDC grant will help cover costs for a merger feasibility study with Worcester and allow Schenevus school officials to explore all possible options as they plan for the best future for students and taxpayers.”

Earlier this year, Senator Seward sponsored legislation (S.4957/A.7499) that was signed into law authorizing advanced state aid payments to assist the school district.
