SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say they've arrested more than a dozen people involved with a large-scale heroin trafficking ring that operated out of the Syracuse area.

Local media outlets report that the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office says police seized about 18,000 packets of heroin worth about $200,000 and charged 14 people earlier this week. Officials say the well-organized drug ring operated in the city of Syracuse and surrounding areas.

Deputies say three illegal handguns and $10,000 cash were also seized when police raided several locations in Syracuse.

Authorities say the two ringleaders had been bringing in a new shipment of heroin from New York City to Syracuse every few weeks for months.
