ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York transportation officials plan to halt most construction projects along the Thruway and other main routes they oversee during the upcoming Labor Day weekend to help ease congestion and delays. Last year, more than 2.7 million vehicles traveled the Thruway from Friday afternoon through the Monday holiday.

Exceptions to the shutdown include work behind the barrier widening the Thruway between the two Albany exits and near the Depew-Lockport and Pembroke exits in western New York, plus overnight work on the South Grand Island Bridge.

Transportation officials are warning of potential traffic delays at the Lackawanna and Williamsville toll barriers near Buffalo, both Albany exits, the Grand Island Bridge toll plazas, Newburgh and Harriman exits, and the toll barriers to the Tappan Zee Bridge and leading to the Massachusetts Turnpike.
