Prosecutors say Truitt started a fire at a Walling Avenue apartment building in Oneonta to get back at his former girlfriend. John Heller was in an adjoining apartment and rescued his finance along with four nephews but could not save himself in the blaze.

Back in January following a six-day trial, the jury found Truitt guilty of Arson in the first degree, Murder in the first degree and two counts of Murder in the second degree.
