Devastating Sentence Handed Down To Otego Man Charged With Manslaughter
It was a devastating sentence handed down in the Otsego County courthouse on Monday regarding an Otego man whose two car passengers died in a 2020 car crash according to AllOTSEGO.
According to a New York State Police report, on July 15, 2020, Shane Santiago of Otego was speeding at 85 miles per hour on County Route 13 in Pittsfield when he went off the road and crashed the vehicle, killing his two passengers, 22 year-old Tehya Gonzalez and Cheyenn Aubry. Santiago only sustained minor injuries from the crash and was treated at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
Santiago was charged with second-degree manslaughter for his role as the driver in the crash. After District Attorney John Muehl read victim impact statements in court on Monday, the judge sentenced Santiago to four to twelve years in prison.
Santiago declined to offer any statement before sentencing was handed down.
