Last night at the Oneonta Common Council meeting, a vote was held on selling a portion of the Dietz Street parking lot to "Lofts on Dietz" developers, The Kearney Realty & Development Group, according to AllOTSEGO. By a 7 to 1 vote, the sale was approved.  The portion of the Dietz lot that is being sold (117 parking spaces out of 718) will be utilized by renters at the proposed Lofts on Dietz, multi-use development project, which includes artist’s housing and space for Hartwick College classrooms.  The sale of the lot the sale of the lot is contingent upon Kearney receiving all necessary approvals and funding.

The approval of the sale drew applause from many present at the meeting.  Mayor Gary Herzig championed the proposal commenting, “This is consistent with our comprehensive plan.  Oneonta is positioned to be a city of the future, and this is a strong step for young people who want to be innovative and creative.”

There were people at the meeting that were unhappy about the sale with concerns about losing parking spaces for visitors and employees of downtown businesses.
