Oneonta Dollars for Scholars Sets Record
The Oneonta Dollars for Scholars presentations took place yesterday afternoon at the Hunt Union Ballroom at SUNY Oneonta.
Jacki Rowe, President of the Oneonta Dollars for Scholars Board of Directors, says this program for Oneonta High School students has grown exponentially over the years.
"Back in 1992, when we started the Oneonta Dollars for Scholars awards program, we had eight scholarships that we were able to hand out," Rowe said. "This year, we have 56."
Rowe explains the reason for the record-breaking number this year of $37,000 being distributed.
"The only credit has to go to the community," she said. "They obviously feel very strongly about supporting their young people and they feel strongly about education."
These awards were given yesterday to students that are entering two- or four-year colleges, universities or vocational and technical programs.
