Nearly $18,000 in fradulent unemployment benefit payments were recovered in Otsego County last year as a part of New York State's investigative partnership with local district attorneys. According to Governor Cuomo's Office, Chenango County almost recovered $16,000 and just over $12,000 was returned in Delaware County. This is part of nearly $4.5 million recovered statewide. The New York State Department of Labor’s Office of Special Investigations is responsible for investigating instances of Unemployment Insurance fraud and when cases are detected they are referred to local law enforcement.
