The New York Department of State’s division of Consumer Protection is warning consumers looking to sell a time share property to be aware of scams by companies charging upfront fees and guaranteeing that it will be sold.

Complaints are coming from consumers who had paid an up front fee to a company promising to sell their timeshare. When the consumer tries to contact the company to confirm the sale of property, the company has disappeared.

Some tips for selling a timeshare property are be aware of unsolicited offers, verify licensing of salespeople, do not pay up front, avoid money back offers, do not pay in cash and check references of any company you do business with.
