Flu cases are up in New York. According to the New York State Department of Health, over 9,200 cases have been reported through the week ending December 29 which is a nearly 75% increase from the week before. Close to 1400 additional residents were hospitalized for the flu last week. It’s the fifth week, that flu was categorized by the Health Department as widespread. So far there’s been one pediatric flu death.

To avoid getting the flu, state officials recommend:
- Get a flu shot
