Even long after we were kids, crawling around the neighborhoods, fully costumed, in the dark of a Halloween night, we still ask the question.  Candy Apples?  Or Caramel Apples?  Now, to be clear, these mostly were delicious items we bought at a bakery, a general store, or a candy shop down on the corner.  But did we really get them as a Trick or Treat item on Halloween Night?

For me the answer is a big yes.

I grew up in the 1950s in a rural village in Central New York.  We traveled in packs around the neighborhoods looking for the best candy stops.  Thumbs down for a single wrapped life saver.  Thumbs down for a pretzel stick.  Big thumbs down for a penny!!  I mean, who did that?

But there was one house that we couldn't wait to get to.  She was a kindly elderly lady named Delphine Logan.  And she stood sentinel at her house's front door dispensing out the most delicious candy apples you ever had.  Big ones, too!  I can't imagine how many she made for that special kid's night, but she had plenty and we all went home with one.  It was our great prize for the night.

Here are a whole list of places to get an epic red "hard crack" candy apple, or a gooey, chewy caramel apple this season.  I'm not sure if anybody hands these out for Trick or Treating anymore, but you can get them all over Upstate New York.  These are some of the best (wait until you see these photographs!!)

So, how do you vote?  Candy Apple?  Caramel?  They are both great.  So let the voting begin!

Do You Know These 4 Upstate New York Baseball Players? You Should, They Are All in the Hall of Fame!

Each summer thousands descend upon the hallowed baseball grounds of Cooperstown New York to witness in person the induction ceremonies of the sport's greatest legends. We know all of their names. But there are pages of trivial facts within the walls of the Hall of Fame. And they are fun.

This gallery looks at the four legendary baseball players who are enshrined in Cooperstown, but remain the only four players buried in Upstate New York (which we loosely refer to as the area up and out of Manhattan).. Do you recognize their names?

Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and other mythic baseball figures are buried in lower New York closer to New York City. These four are buried in our region and their graves are easily accessible to the public.

And their stories are great!
